Warnings: Canon-typical Non-Explicit Discussion Of Weird Sex Hangups, canon-typical animal harm, canon-typical misogyny, etc. I have taken liberties with the migratory behavior of the European sturgeon.
Notes: I wrote this in like two weeks in Jan-Feb and then the fic exchange I wrote it for got delayed many a time as pinch hitters kept flaking out! I'm glad I can finally share it. I will note that the recipient had a DNW for animal harm, so the version I posted to AO3 does not contain it. You can consider this the director's cut, with the few affected paragraphs put back in because they were just so... themes-y.

Anyway here's like 10 or 11,000 words of post-canon Mirnatius trauma recovery, "being a huge dick the whole time" flavor. I don't get Dark Fuck Prince/ingenue ships; I think every such evil menacing hotboy should immediately be reduced to a miserable wet cat who lives only at the lady's sufferance. So.... thanks for this ship, Ms. Novik.

Notes: I ended up getting assigned 17776 for Yuletide and that worked out fine, but I had been secretly hoping to get assigned to write Weird Yuri about the Claidi Journals (Ironel/Claidi? Ustareth/Claidi???). I re-bought all four books so I could reread them for this purpose. Well, I ended up not needing to reread them for Yuletide, and now that I am getting around to them on my own time, it struck me, "I want to write a DIFFERENT Weird Yuri (Winter/Claidi) than what that person was requesting,"

and then instead of that the first fic that actually occurred to me was stupid comedy-relief villainous henchman slash,

I do miss when this ficathon had people writing or prompting specific fandoms that I like (I guess that was around the year 2020), and this year my halfhearted attempts to chum the waters for things I'd like to see have failed. Oh well. In 2026 I suppose I am more willing to inflict my unpopular BS on people prompting "any."

PSA: Cleaned up my personal website a bit and actually gave it an RSS feed (???), so on the assumption that that works, I will no longer have to update people elsewhere the next time I make changes. Which will probably happen in 2028, the rate I've been going. I may lump updates to the original-fic site into the same feed, if the situation ever arises that I update that site.

(Which I might. I'm poking at an art project that might be best suited for archival there, TBD).

Featuring two of my specialties, "Final Fantasy 6" and "f/m ships where the man is terrified." Not at the same time, though. I could fix that someday, maybe. Celes can be pretty intimidating, and Terra's whole deal does have some spookiness potential. Much to ponder.

Went back through my scrap files today and found that, in February, I'd written the first three paragraphs of something for feflashfriday and then bailed out of even that as too much commitment. And then I was like, "well, it's Friday now. I dunno how much effort I put into this the first go-round but I'll set a timer for one hour and whatever I can do with this in that time, that's getting posted." So, this isn't edited and there are things about it I would fix if I'd had more time, but - hey, I actually completed a thing.

HELPFULLY ENOUGH, the prompt at the time was like, "Make An Old Favorite Suffer." ... ... Hey Shinon c'mere.
