shinonI do miss when this ficathon had people writing or prompting specific fandoms that I like (I guess that was around the year 2020), and this year my halfhearted attempts to chum the waters for things I'd like to see have failed. Oh well. In 2026 I suppose I am more willing to inflict my unpopular BS on people prompting "any."
FE3H, Dimitri has a normal one
It starts out easy to tell what's not real - strange lace-like patterns creeping over walls, the sound of singing in an empty room. But there always comes a point where his friends begin shooting each other furtive glances and he wonders, What, what did I say wrong this time, which part of this am I supposed to be imagining. And then there are the rats, and the rats, and rats and rats and rats.
FE9/10, that one jerk character and someone they're not a jerk to
"It's simple," Shinon can be heard saying from a little distance away, "I'm just better than you," and equally audible is a childish groan of frustration that can only have come from Oscar's baby brother. Oscar angles his steps in that direction, ready to intervene - but soon sees it's only an archery lesson. Goddess knows why Rolf set his sights on such a prickly mentor, and the greater wonder is that Shinon plays along - but he does, and however abrasively he frames it, his advice is good.
FFVI, WoR power trio and "the last bottle"
Setzer emerged from the Falcon's hold with a manic grin and quite possibly the world's last bottle of Doman umeshu, saying, "So am I going to drink this alone or are you two helping?"
Edgar and Celes exchanged glances; Edgar said, "What, right now?"
Setzer whipped a corkscrew out of his coat pocket and raised his eyebrows meaningfully.
Folk of the Air, Jude's murderdad feelings
Justin Duarte made things. Everyone's always ready to drop hints that Eva was terrible, so I've never doubted whether I took after her, but I don't think any of Dad survives in either of us; Taryn's too busy trying to survive to pick up a craft, and me, I only destroy.
But I have hundreds of memories of Madoc correcting my sword form - memories of thinking This is how I'll die, with a blade in my hand and another in my gut, thinking I'll die your daughter.
ALBW, taking the gameplay loop too literally once again
It's great how Hyrule's hero never stays down - no, really, unironically great, fantastic for business (but who's counting?) and Ravio is not even slightly bitter that death in his own world is more of a one-and-done. Seriously, it's wonderful, how every time Link dies he'll just come back here, and learn something from it, and spend a lot of money on items and give it another go.
Assuming that's how it works, he's learning, uh, a concerning amount about bombs.
