Warnings: Zelos remains... that guy.
Notes: GYWO Yahtzee, "duende." Dramatic irony is the name of the game.
Camping outside yet another temple, after hearing the same thing from yet another spirit, Sheena stared up at the sky. "This Mithos must've been really something, huh? Making pacts in both worlds." She looked down again, gnawing thoughtfully on a hangnail. "To beat all of them in battle, yeah, but then to get 'em all on his side, too..."
"Is it hard coming up with your vow?" Colette asked, leaning forward to listen. "I thought the fighting was supposed to be the tough part. Like, if you pass the test, they have to listen to you anyway, right?"
"Yeah, but it has to be a good vow, and it has to be something the Summon Spirit actually wants to help you with - and I always feel like I'm gonna forget the words. I just had to fight for my life and I'm all sweaty and amped up, and a big font of magic is staring at me, and now it's time to negotiate. It's a little bit nerve-wracking." She hugged her knees. "And knowing somebody did all this before - I just wonder, you know? How he pulled it off."
"But you're pulling it off too!"
"Yeah, so far."
Colette shook her head. "No. I don't think you have to worry. You're honest and strong and you talk like a hero. It makes people want to be your friends." She clasped her hands earnestly. "I liked you right away. I bet it works on the Summon Spirits, too."
"I -" Sheena pulled back, flustered. "I dunno, I think that's more about you than me -"
"Well, I don't think Mithos could do anything that you can't do. You're amazing."
"Colette! Jeez! You can't just say stuff like that to people! I - I mean, thanks, but -"
Another voice cut in, from the darkness beyond the campfire: "Not to ruin this little lovefest or anything, but didn't he break all his vows anyway? Otherwise the Summon Spirits wouldn't even wanna deal with you. So he can't be that great."
Oh, crud. Someone heard all that. Zelos heard all that. Bastard was supposed to be asleep. Fighting down the urge to crawl away and die, Sheena snapped, "What, Zelos? You got something else to add?"
"Nah. Colette's right, you've got this in the bag. Anyway, I bet he did the same thing you're doing - just wowed 'em with his majestic rack."
Sheena got up. "Sorry, Colette. I'll be right back. Looks like today's the day I finally kill a Chosen One."
