Four drabbles about Sabin

shinonI continue to slam through a bunch of GYWO Yahtzee prompts because the deadline is approaching and I want 100% completion; here are four 100-word fics about best boy Sabin Figaro.
"Frowsty"
Doma Castle smells like a room nobody goes into. Sabin is thinking of the Queen's chambers, locked up from the day he was born, but every castle must have one. By the time he was old enough to ask, it was just one of those things. We don't go in there. It's too sad. The end.
Moths have been at everything. Of course Doma isn't like home - it's a lot wetter, there's bugs and mold and stuff.
And not just the one ghost. Not just the one room abandoned to her memory.
Cyan stands amid the decay, his back straight.
"Damp"
Vargas lives in town with his mother, and doesn't always come to the castle with Master Duncan. Seems like it's an agreement between Dad and Master Duncan - maybe there's a line between treating your training partner as an equal and doing your level best to bash the prince's face in. Vargas pushes his luck. Maybe that's why Sabin likes him.
After they fight Vargas hunkers down, breathing heavily, and shining with sweat, and he's put on muscle since they last saw each other. A lock of hair clings to his damp forehead. He grins.
Wait - hang on. Maybe it's this.
"Chirp"
They find an egg one day. It happens sometimes. Kinda breaks your heart, though - thinking of all those chocobos, their homes and their humans gone, trying to nest on the plains and not remembering how.
"Gau, leave it," Sabin says. "Mama bird's gone. It's been cold too long."
But Gau has an ear pressed to the shell. "Baby bird," he says finally. "Cheep cheep. He still try." He waves urgently to Sabin and Cyan. "Bring warm. Blanket. Lots."
Sabin's vision blurs. They don't argue. Gau makes a nest and snuggles up to the egg, muttering, "Nobody forget. Nobody leave you."
"Inconsiderate"
Sabin and Locke hit it off pretty quick. Sabin gets along with most people, and Locke is already pretty comfortable with what he calls "that Figaro brand of dumbassery." (Sabin wonders if he should be offended on his brother's behalf, but Edgar waves it off like he doesn't mind.)
There are still awkward moments here and there. Sabin mentions something that happened in training, that he'd wanted to tell Edgar about, and Locke goes serious. "You coulda just written," he says, unsympathetic. And he's right.
He's right, Sabin thinks, Why didn't I...?
(He tries to apologize. Edgar waves it off.)
