Fandom: Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold
Characters: Fafnir/Flavio
Word count: ~800
Warnings: None
Notes: Some postgame Flavnir dorkiness as a present for Morri. Second person, because it'd just be weird to write Fafnir any other way at this point.

You have become an immortal, nearly indestructible monster, and you have saved the world, and for some reason this just makes your boyfriend worry about you more.

“Does it annoy you that I cook for us? Do you want me to stop? I know you don’t, like, need to eat or anything, so I was thinking, maybe you’d rather we spent our time some other way. I could eat when you’re not around, or -”

Maybe it’s because he is only now aware that he is your boyfriend. You personally have taken the relationship as read since you were twelve, maybe thirteen. But Flavio did not seem to understand this until after he and the others found you and dragged you back to High Lagaard, and you scaled the last stratum of Yggdrasil and conquered an additional ancient terror, and then Arianna had to go home and the guild had to disband, and he asked where you planned to go, and you stared at him wondering how he could have any doubt you’d go there together.

“Don’t push yourself too hard, okay? Uh - not that you have to slow down or anything! That’s not what I’m saying! I can totally keep up! It’s just, if you could maybe be a little more careful… Not that I mind patching you up, either. It’s fine. It’s completely fine, seriously. You know what? Ignore me. I didn’t say anything. Everything’s cool.”

You haven’t decided where you want to live. How could you, when there’s so much world out there you haven’t seen yet? Neither of you has said it yet, but you think that might be an answer unto itself. The road, the wilderness, the sky, the act of exploration - that might already be home. Anyway, large towns make Flavio nervous, and on your part you have to remember that you’ll never age or die, so settling down for good in any one place isn’t advisable. Neither of you has acknowledged these facts outright, either, but it’s okay. There are things you know without having to talk about them. Things you agree on without having to discuss. That’s what it’s like, spending your whole life with someone.

When you do stay in a city, you do most of the talking for the first day or so, until Flavio is more at ease. You try not to let him notice that you do this, or he’d fret about that, too. He’s always been a difficult person to do favors for. You have never minded.

“Look over here! I’ve never seen leaves this color before! Oh, but stay back - it’s sporulating. Like a fern, but… kinda creepy? Don’t wanna risk breathing those until I have a better idea what it is. I mean, not everything is trying to kill us. It’s not like we’re in Yggdrasil anymore. But still! I’m just gonna make a sketch so I can look it up later. What would you call that shade of purple?”

Not everything is trying to kill you. You’re not in Yggdrasil anymore. These are net positives. But fighting is still... something you’re good at. Something you would miss if it were gone. You don’t know if it’s the Fafnir or the human in you that wants it. There aren’t many monsters outside the influence of the Labyrinth, and ordinary predators don’t go out of their way to bother people. But on the rare occasions someone or something wants to cause you trouble, you’re always ready to meet it.

Maybe Flavio is right to worry. You never worry for an instant. Nothing out here can hurt him - he’s too agile, too prepared. And you? You’re not merely an immortal, nearly indestructible monster, but an immortal, nearly indestructible monster with Flavio watching your blind spot.

You stumble on a nest of adolescent - you will later argue about whether they were technically dragons or just very large, very cranky lizards - adolescent reptiles, let's say - and the parents come for you. Before you can even discuss who has dibs on what, Flavio’s put two arrows in the bigger one and started running, drawing it away. All right, then. You guess the small one is yours. As you transform, you hear him call out, “Meet back up at the river! I love you, okay?”

When all’s said and done, you meet back up at the river. He seems to have finished his fight well before you did yours. He apologizes for saying weird stuff all the time. You say weird stuff right back, and then give him noogies so it doesn’t embarrass him too much.
