When I saw the prompt, I was going down a mental list of FE characters who would be involved in Ill-Advised Necromancy, like, "Canas or Niime... but I've already written that once; Lyon... but I'm kinda rusty on FE8; Hubert... but how would he even come back any Wronger than he already is???" and this is how I tried to solve that problem, lol
It's interesting to me how Hubert's 600% unhinged ride-or-die for Edelgard, and he's the only person she trusts, and yet they mostly talk in terms of shared objectives or ideals. Like it's a super personal and ambiguously romantic bond but they're both like "we're being very intellectual and high-minded about everything and upholding such a lofty standard for our reign of terror." So I was thinking about Edelgard feeling vulnerable and unmoored without him, but not conceding that, and finally getting him back but it's a version of him who actually makes the subtext into text and that's unbearable???
