Sundry tiny fics

Written from December through February, a bunch of hellashort fics, mostly prompted by Tumblr bros.

Ib: She’d thought about getting him a warmer coat, but she didn’t get enough allowance for that. Her parents already thought it was strange that she had invited him to spend the holiday with them even without extravagant presents - and on second thought, he wouldn’t have looked like himself in something less tattered and threadbare. It was enough to drink hot tea and watch the snow filter slowly through the trees, and enough that his pockets seemed to contain an unending supply of peppermint sticks, just in case.

One Piece: He had thousands of followers - he was the pride of Sniper Island - he had been everywhere and seen everything, and his name was known and respected all along the Grand Line. Sogeking could do things he never could have.

But the mask wasn’t what burned that flag.

Ghost Trick (contains spoilers for everything): 1. Milestones hit him hard. He makes it through Kamila’s high school graduation all right, but there is a small celebration at their house afterward, and he sees her bright and grown up and surrounded by friends and thinks, This wouldn’t have happened. You would never have been here.

The cat bumps up against his shin. He covers his mouth with one hand.

2. Missile wasn’t upset about being dead if he could help Miss Kamila - and the Ghost World wasn’t a bad place anyway. He could see colors here! (He wondered which one was “blue.”)

Murdoch Mysteries: Murdoch’s return was great for its own sake, of course, but Higgins was mostly glad it made George stop playing the serious bossy detective too important for normal conversations.

“Henry,” he said, “what if the killer escaped on a pair of tiny bicycles strapped to the bottoms of his shoes?”

Like that.

Raffles: I had not seen Raffles all day, and perhaps that was for the best - the traffic outside our door seemed greater than usual, and the nervous strain had led me to resent his ever calling me here.

I was reading in the drawing room when I heard a slight noise to my left, and turned my head just in time to see him deposit a hot cup of tea on the table at my elbow. I began to thank him, or perhaps to question this sudden generosity, but he raised a finger to his lips and, with an infuriating smile, stole away again.

Ace Attorney: “I think you just gotta jump a little earlier,” said Gumshoe, “right around - aw, you missed again - but you’ll probably get it next time!”

“There will be no next time,” said Edgeworth, seething, “because this game is imbecilic and - and probably rendered impossible by some flaw in the code.” He shoved the controller into the detective’s hands and stalked off, with considerably less dignity than he thought.

FE6/7: It was perhaps not surprising that Canas knew his mother on sight, even more than a century into the past, her hair still dark, her face younger than his.

The surprising part was that she seemed to recognize him. “Good,” she said, staring alarmingly into his eyes, “this must mean I succeed.”

FE10: Tibarn had never stated outright that Naesala’s diplomatic mission would include seducing every major dignitary in Tellius, but most people - not least Naesala himself - seemed to take that as read.

Skrimir saw him off with a confused frown that would have made the trip worth it in and of itself, like he had no idea what had just happened, or why, or whether he was allowed to enjoy it. It would undoubtedly be replaced within the hour by anger and possible smashing of furniture. He adjusted his tunic and said, almost defensively, “Gallia has never forgiven you.”

Naesala smirked. “I’ll cope somehow.” Besides, it wouldn’t be half so interesting if they had. He stepped off the balcony and dropped like a stone before finally spreading his wings and wheeling away into the sunrise.
